# How do I add a custom citation style to the SmartCite Add-in?

### **Please note: To perform the following action you must have already entered in at least one citation with SmartCite. Without any citations in place, you will not be able to edit your style. **

To edit or add a new citation style in SmartCite, head over to the "Options" pane. Once there, you'll see an option to "Manage Custom Bibliography Styles"

This will then allow you to upload a style that is not currently available in SmartCite. Do a quick search for your format first, as we have over 9,000+ in our database. Or, choose whether to edit the one you need by click on the Create/Edit Styles.

If you create a new style you will be directed to the CSL editor. Once customized, your file will save as .csl file, which you can then upload.
